Tim originally studied engineering. After working for brief periods as a boat builder, yacht chandler and professional sailor, he went on to study Admiralty Law at the University of Wales in Cardiff where he obtained his law degree. He subsequently "went off sailing" for a while before joining Dyer Burdett & Co. as the firm’s first articled clerk in 1982, qualifying as a Solicitor in 1984 and becoming a partner in 1986.

Since that time he has concentrated on developing Marine and Admiralty Law services, specialising in all aspects of the law relating to pleasure vessels. He prides himself on his approach and offers a unique combination of practical experience and legal knowledge of the subject. He has developed an international practice and is recognised as one of the foremost experts in this field. He has been successfully involved in many leading cases representing owners, insurers and high profile marine organisations. He is a member of the Royal Yachting Association and the British Marine Federation.

Day to Day
He supports both national and international clients with a variety of marine issues, providing advice and representation on:

  • Technical construction disputes
  • Contractual disputes
  • Marine conveyancing
  • Title disputes
  • Salvage and towage
  • Recreational Craft Directive / Maritime and Coastguard Agency compliance
  • Marine related personal injury and fatalities

Outside of the Office
Tim has a Swedish wife, also a keen racing sailor, and they have two young children. The family has 10 boats, at the last count, and Tim is never happier than when working on his next boat building project! Like many Swedes, the family has a wooden summer house in a remote part of the Stockholm archipelago where, unfortunately, there is no telephone service! Tim’s idea of a perfect holiday is to spend a week there fishing and sailing with his family.
